December 14, Farewell Dinner for Delegates from the Open World Leadership Program from Kaluga and the Fee for Services Program from Astrakhan with ICW home host families at the home of Joel Blair in Rutland.

December 9-17, Delegates from city of Astrakhan, Russia

Fee for service program, Theme: “Innovation in Education”
Two faculty members from the State University of Astrakhan, Russia, came to Worcester to continue discussions on continuing relations with Clark University, WPI, and Harvard University.

December 9-17, “Special Project”- City of Kaluga, Russia

Open World Leadership Program, Theme: “Effective City Management”
ICW through a competitive bidding process was invited to propose the program,
develop the theme, and select candidates.   Five top city administrators had a 10-day professional and cultural program in Washington DC, Worcester, Boston and New York City.

December 3, ICW Pot Luck Dinner

Group from the Republic of Georgia were the guests of honor at a pot luck dinner held at the Multicultural Center at Clark University.  The Georgian visitors provided a cultural presentation of Georgia with videos, dance, music, and song.

Community Connections Program, Theme: “Small and Medium Entrepreneurship Development”.
ICW organized job-shadowing internships and professional training for 10 business people from the republic of Georgia in diverse areas of their interests.

October 8-13, Royce and Nadia Anderson accompanied Dean Thomas Massey of Clark University’s College of Professional and Continuing Education and Board member of ICW to Astrakhan, Russia to explore the possibility of establishing Clark master’s degree programs there.  Discussions are now continuing between Clark and Astrakhan, facilitated by ICW.

October 4-7, Royce and Nadia Anderson visited Worcester’s Sister City, Pushkin.
During the trip they:

  • Met with the City Administration of Pushkin/Pavlovsk, and discussed the 20th anniversary of this Sister City relationship, which will be in 2007.
  • Met with the Pushkin artists who exhibited their works in Worcester during their 2-week program in November, 2004. One of these artists, Sergei Artemyev, is now painting a portrait of former Worcester Mayor John Anderson to be hung in City Hall. 
  • Organized a meeting- reception with the Alumni Association in St. Petersburg, which was originally formed through the efforts of ICW staff and its Community Connections alumni. About 30 Alumni attended the meeting at the restaurant in Pulkovsky Hotel. They included participants in previous Community Connections, Open World and other programs.

September 28, Nadia Anderson visited the City of Kaluga, Russia and had a meeting with Open World Alumni Roman Kuzmichev and one of the candidates for the upcoming Worcester program in December, Peter Sergiyenko.

Group of 19 government officials, educators, journalists, and NGO directors from: Bahrain, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Jamaica, Montenegro, Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa,
Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.

June 15, ICW Annual Meeting

ICW Annual Meeting, June 1, 2005 - May 31, 2006, at Clark University.  Speakers were Linda Looft from WPI and Gil Pontius from Clark University on their experiences with ICW programs.  Business included election of the new Board of Directors and presentation of the Annual Report

May 21, ICW’ Fundraising Event

At the historic Apsley Mansion, home of ICW Board member Kirk Carter.  Host Kirk Carter gave tours of the Mansion.  Gourmet international desserts were served, prepared by ICW members.  Musical performances were given by7-string guitar virtuoso gypsy guitarists Vadim Kolpakov and Goran Popovski; as well as by Dr. Paul Shannon with ICW member Charlotte Zax playing four-hands classical piano music.

May 13, ICW Pot Luck Dinner
Ten visitors from Tajikistan organized a Cultural Presentation as part of an ICW pot luck dinner  at the historic home of the Director of the Worcester Art Museum and ICW member James Welu. Photos

Community Connections Program, Theme: “Healthy Lifestyle Education”
Ten public health professionals from the central Asian republic of Tajikistan had a comprehensive program in Worcester on the Promotion of a Healthy Lifestyle.

April 13-24, Group from the city of Astrakhan, Russia

This was a fee for service program on the theme: “Innovation and Technology in Education.”
Delegation of 12 Academics and Department Heads, under the leadership of the Rector (President) of the State University of Astrakhan Aleksandr Lunev, visited Washington, Worcester, Boston and New-York for an 11- day of professional and cultural program.
Program Initiated through a direct agreement between the ICW and GRP-S
Funded by the University of Astrakhan organized by ICW.

February 25, ICW Winter Outing & Pot Luck Dinner

The Annual Winter Outing was hosted at the farm of ICW members Tom and Tabby
Tashjian in Oakham. About forty brave ICW members traveled through a winter snowstorm to feast on the food; visit the horses, sheep, goats, and waterfowl in the barnyard; and join in singing while Royce played the guitar.
